The Princess and the Pea

Once upon a time, there was a prince who wanted to marry a real princess. One stormy night, a young woman claiming to be a princess showed up at the castle gate.

The queen, skeptical of the young woman’s claim, decided to test her by placing a pea under twenty mattresses and twenty feather beds. In the morning, the princess complained of a terrible night’s sleep, saying “I scarcely closed my eyes all night! Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard.” The prince knew she was a real princess, for only a true princess would be able to feel a tiny pea through so many layers of bedding. They were married and lived happily ever after.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

In the town of Hamelin, there was a rat infestation problem. The rats were everywhere, causing damage and spreading diseases. The mayor of the town decided to hire a piper to get rid of the rats. The piper agreed and started playing his magic pipe. The rats were charmed by the music and followed the piper out of the town and into the river, where they all drowned.

However, when the piper came to collect his payment, the mayor refused to pay him the full amount they had agreed on. The piper was angry and vowed to get his revenge. The next day, he returned to the town and started playing his pipe once again. This time, instead of rats, the children of the town were charmed by the music and followed the piper out of the town and into a mountain cave, where they disappeared forever.

The parents of the children were devastated and begged the piper to return their children. The piper refused and told them that he would only return the children if the mayor paid him the full amount he was owed. The mayor finally agreed and the piper returned the children to the town.

From that day on, the people of Hamelin made sure to always keep their promises and pay their debts. The town never saw the piper again, but the memory of his revenge and the loss of their children lived on for generations.
